Motivated and self-disciplined, Dr. Rachael M. Ragozzino has dedicated her career to caring for small animals as the owner and a veterinarian at Companion Animal Medical Center in Rotterdam, New York since 2015. In her roles, she performs surgeries, specializes in oncology, and utilizes digital medicine and technologically advanced practices for the utmost progressive care for people’s pets. As a testament to her love and compassion for her four-legged patients, she has made it her mission to keep veterinary medicine a personable experience, not a corporate one, and strives to keep her hospital a private practice.
Born and raised in Schenectady, Dr. Ragozzino has ridden horses since she was five years old and always had cats and dogs growing up. A dedicated equestrian and animal lover from a young age, her first job was at an animal hospital when she was 16, which she loved and served as a foundational step toward her career. She earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in biology from St. Lawrence University in 2006, completed coursework at North Carolina State University, and rounded out her educational journey by attaining a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from St. George’s University in 2009—she considers graduating from veterinary medicine to be her proudest moment.
Attributing her success to support from her family, friends, colleagues, and co-workers, Dr. Ragozzino looks forward to expanding her practice in the next five to 10 years. For aspiring or new-to-the-field veterinarians, she stressed the importance of practicing self-discipline and drive: “Keep working toward your goal. Don’t give up! It gets hard, but it’s possible.”
